The first iteration of the (Un)Defining Queer was not a full exhibition as it can be seen now by Whitworth visitors. The project started as a sample of ‘queered’ artworks displayed in the Collections Care Centre used as a testing space. The site where the artworks were on display is not coincidental: as the gallery takes pride in its mission to use art for positive social change, the Collection Care Centre served as a symbolic place of care, consideration and community for LGBTQIA+ identities that was the kernel for the current (Un)Defining Queer temporary exhibition which opened in January 2023.
